Kakheti Wine Region

Welcome to Kakheti, Georgia’s stunning and unique wine region. Kakheti is a two-hour drive from Tbilisi through the leafy, winding Gombori Pass with some of the best scenery the country has to offer. It is the most important wine region in the country, with ancient viticulture roots, as nearly three-quarters of Georgia’s wine grapes are grown here. Georgia’s wine tradition is the oldest in the world known to date: archaeologists have dated it back 8,000 years. The Kakheti region, situated in Eastern Georgia is a must visit for wine lovers or those that simply just enjoy stunning landscapes with mountain peaks, breathtakingly beautiful villages, and some of the finest hotels in the country.

Georgian wine is made the traditional way in large clay pots called Qvevri.

The wine-making process involves pressing the grapes and then pouring the juice, grape skins, stalks, and pips into the Qvevri, which is sealed and buried in the ground so that the wine can ferment for five to six months before being drunk. Most farmers and city dwellers use this method of making wine.

Georgian wines are so appealing because they're unique and delicious.

Every year, winemakers get more and more adventurous, rediscovering old grapes in forests, on old family land holdings, or in government-sponsored seed/vine banks which creates fantastic variation from season to season and adds to the excitement of the wine being produced.
